Even with all our building restoring creating and rough hands, we have to find time to take care of our selves so we still look good outside of the shop.
A couple of products I have learned about over the years and have made them a part of my daily routine are for the care of my beard. I have had a beard for at least 25 years. Various lengths and spreads of course and my wife DOES NOT want me to shave it off. So She makes sure I take care of it.
I really like this stuff. I have wirey facial hair. It can get dry and definitely feel like a wire brush. In the mornings after washing my face with clean fragrance-free soap and sulfur wash, I condition my beard with Cremo Beard and Scruff Softner. Before I walk out the door I comb (really cool wood comb) in some Cremo Beard and Scruff Cream. The Forest Blend Scent is also awesome and Manly!
Alright Now that we have covered that we should probably talk about the Shave. I shave every morning and you know that can dry out some skin.
Before washing with my fragrance-free soap, I use navigator Shaving soap by the Victory Shaving Company. My Brother In Law introduced it to me. This soap comes in a variety of scents. I prefer the navigator because it has Tobacco scent. I also use this soap when I shave my head.
As far as Razors go I use the Dollar shave club razors. With the combination of the soap and the 5 blade jetable razors, I get a shave on my head that lasts for days. So check these guys out and tell me what you think!

My Bride and partner in crime, aka Merideth, finally found a moment to swing in and grab some shots of the awesome 5ft Farmhouse table and bench I created in November. With the X leg style and the gray tones on the top! This piece ties in nicely with the gate, side tables and other custom items we have created for friends.
I started with 6ft 2X6s ripping them on the table saw to square up the edges and then running them through the plainer to get a 1 1/4″ thickness. I put the boards together with my trusty Gorilla Wood glue and also Kreg gigged down the length of the boards. a few clamps and let it dry for a few days.
For the skirt on the bottom, I ripped some 2X4s down to 3 inches and ran them through the planer to get a 1″ thickness. I attached the skirt 1 1/2″ inches in from the edge of the table again using Gorilla glue and Kreg.
For the X in the legs and the upper support, I use 4x4s slightly plained to take the roundness out of the edges. I then dadoed the legs in the center so they would fit together. All angles on these legs were cut at 45°. For the feet, I used 2X4 stacked for a certain look.
Before sending this off to the paint and stain department I cleaned up the glue and distressed the wood using s good ol fashion hand planer, couple smacks with a hammer and a crescent wrench to get the look we wanted.
The skirt and the legs were stained with a Dark Walnut gel stain and then painted with Dixie Belle Cotton paint After painting Merideth rubbed with dark wax. The Top was stained with Dark Walnut gel stain, and distressed with Dixie Belle Hurricane Grey and rubbed with dark wax. Finally finishing it off with 3 coats of water-based Polyurethane.
The bench was top was made and painted in a similar fashion to match the table.
Our client was able to display this piece in there home for their families Thanks Giving dinner.

What fun build we have going on!
As you follow us here a Diaries of Craftsman and at Twine and Tumbleweeds you know we are in constant remodel mode. This my friends is the reality of home construction. Chaos, dust, tools everywhere but I estimate we have finished probably about 75% of our “older bi-level home”. So no surprise, we are currently working on our living room to get ready for the holidays.
This piece is one that Merideth has wanted in our living room for a while. Our very own custom Farmhouse style coffee table. Made with a variety of woods and sizes we wanted the sides to match our island X base we installed earlier this year
I finished the bottom with straight pine planks. The top was put together in an opposing arrow fashion. I used Pine, Alder, and Hickory boards glued and air nailed from underneath. the edges were finished off with planed pine wood.
We wanted to keep the same color stain as our kitchen island but with a bit more character on top and shelf. White was too much, gray was boring! I ended up staining, then applying a wash of Dixie Belle chalk paint in sawmill gravy, grey and then dark wax here and there. It’s a lovely muted mix of tones on top that will hide dust and imperfections. We don’t feel guilty putting our feet on it either!!
It is a perfect piece for our home and compliments or new fireplace build (post to come soon!). The Furbabies really enjoy the space between them!
